If you've ever wondered how to calculate square roots by yourself without guessing, this is the website for you! Here is the url:

http://www.homeschoolmath.net/teaching/square-root-algorithm.php

Scroll down to 'Finding Square Roots Using an Algorithm' to find the method. After you have figured it out, use the method to find the answer to this math question:

What is the square root of 10? Round to the nearest thousandth.
(Hint: You will need to calculate the square root to four digits, and then round)

Interesting method. Personally, I memerize sqrt(2) for isoceles triangles, sqrt (3) for 30-60-90 triangles, and sqrt(5) for the golden ratio.

For any square roots higher, I would just use a calculator. (Mainly square roots above 10 are only presented in calculator rounds of MathCounts)

Anyways, this is an extremely efficient method for more than 2 digit numbers. Thanks for sharing. Very Happy
